We ‘ve had this little foot stool for a couple of years now. If you have short legs like me then you need a foot stool or two around the house. Lately, I have noticed that this handy little foot stool is looking pretty sad 🙁 It has a coffee ring stain on it and the white is now more of a dirty gray. So what’s a girl to do?
First thought was to reupholster BUT to reupholster this stool I would need to do a lot of sewing along the sides. I could eventually figure this out but I like to pick my DIY battles and this was not one that I wanted to take on.
So it sat around bugging me for several months. One day I was in Homegoods and noticed all of the faux fur ottomans, pillows, throws. I loved the Luxe factor and thought, Hey, That’s it! Cover that little foot stool with Faux Fur.
The faux fur is very forgiving. I would not need to sew it because the seams are somewhat invisible. I could just cut it to size and staple.
Here is how I did it.
- Step Stool
- Faux Fur-The yardage needed depends on your project. I purchased a yard from hobby lobby and I have a little left over for a small project.
- Staple Gun & Nails
Let’s get started.
First step is to remove the feet and backing from the bottom. Put them in a safe place so you can out them back later on.
So a word about removing the older fabric. It’s kinda a no no to leave the old fabric on but sometimes I’m lazy anddecide to cheat. :O
Next, I cut the fabric so that I have enough to easily pull up on the sides and staple in place. I start by putting one staple on opposing sides. Make sure to pull fabric tight!
I stapled from the middle to the right corner. Corners are a bit tricky! I trimmed off the excess fabric and basically did a hospital fold, pulled tight and stapled. I continued until I worked my way around the entire bottom.
Once I trimmed up the excess fabric I put the backing and legs back on.It’s done. Easy-peasy right?
It didn’t take me long to curl up with a good magazine and enjoy my luxe little Faux Fur Stool!
So the next time you’re at the thrift store and see a solid step stool go ahead and pick up! You can make your own faux fur step stool too.
